History

We are proud of our dependability" -- Josh R. Morriss, Sr. - CEO 1934-1989

Before the typewriter was in common use, with business savvy and handsome handwriting, Fred Offenhauser and his partner Kelsey founded our agency in the railroad town of Texarkana in 1882 in the oldest brick building in the city (now the Texarkana Historical Museum). Offenhauser shared the building with the Texarkana Board of Trade now the Chamber of Commerce and Boy Scout Troop 18, which we sponsored. With saloons and gambling joints nearby, insurance companies shied away but with perseverance the agency grew to represent more than 50 companies. Fred was elected as president of the National Association of Insurance Agents as well as Texas and Arkansas agent associations. We are proud of our dependability!

Josh R. Morriss, Sr., Josh R. Morriss, Jr., and Don N. Morriss have led the firm ably while also serving as state association presidents. Robert Maxwell has also served as a state association president. Other partners have served with distinction in leadership roles in various capacities. We continue the tradition of knowledge, integrity and dedication not only to our clients but our community and churches too.

Our former location houses the Museum of Regional History.

In 1913 we hosted a 40th birthday party for the city.

This 1939 photo is of the boy scout troop we sponsored with future partners Josh Morriss Jr. and Sam Shuman.

Offenhauser has given away calendars
for many years. The original phone
